April Showers Bring May Flowers: Hıdırellez Celebration

The fellows and their guests started the afternoon with fresh spring and summer bites — big shoutout to whoever brought those amazing samosas! Nearly 90% of the folks who joined were first-time visitors to Abrahamic House, which made the gathering full of new connections.

Esma shared the story of Hidirellez, a traditional celebration rooted in Turkic Islamic folk tradition. Hidirellez marks the day the prophets Hidir and Ilyas meet each year to bring health and prosperity. But beyond the folklore, the deeper meaning of the holiday is a reminder that true prosperity doesn’t come from wealth — it comes from community. From being there for one another, showing up, and building relationships rooted in care and mutual support — all the things we strive to practice and embrace at Abrahamic House.

To bring that spirit to life, everyone wrote our wishes on fabric and tied them around the deck. Then they made flower bouquets and enjoyed the beautiful weather together — a simple, joyful way to honor the abundance that community brings.
